On a hill far away stood an Old Rugged Cross, The emblem of suffering and shame; And I love that old cross where the dearest and best For a world of lost sinners was slain.
So Ill cherish the Old Rugged Cross, Till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the Old Rugged Cross, And exchange it some day for a crown.
Oh that Old Rugged Cross, so despised by the world, Has a wondrous attraction for me; For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above To bear it to dark Calvary.
So Ill cherish the Old Rugged Cross, Till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the Old Rugged Cross, And exchange it some day for a crown.
In that Old Rugged Cross, stained with blood so divine, A wondrous beauty I see, For twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died, To pardon and sanctify me.
So Ill cherish the Old Rugged Cross, Till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the Old Rugged Cross, And exchange it some day for a crown.
To the Old Rugged Cross I will ever be true; Its shame and reproach gladly bear; Then Hell call me some day to my home far away, Where His glory forever Ill share.
So Ill cherish the Old Rugged Cross, Till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the Old Rugged Cross, And exchange it some day for a crown.

Okay, if we have a sing-along going along somebody has to post the great hymn written by a Methodist former slave-trader,
Amazing Grace.
Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.
Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me,
His Word my hope secures;
He will my Shield and Portion be,
As long as life endures.
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow, The sun forbear to shine;
But God, Who called me here below,
Shall be forever mine.
When weve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
Weve no less days to sing Gods praise
Than when wed first begun."
Happy Easter, everyone!

In the heat of the early morning
On a hill they call the Skull
The roaring of the angry mob had settled to a lull
All eyes were cast upon the man whose hands and feet were bound
They saw him cry in anguish when they heard the hammer pound
They saw the bloody woven thorns with which His head was crowned
They watched the bloody cross of wood be dropped into the ground
The soldiers gambled for His clothes, they watched them win and lose
They saw the sign above His head that said King of the Jews
It is finished! And the sky grew black as the night
It is finished! And the people scattered in fright
The work had been done, redemption had been won
The war was over without a fight
It is finished
They searched His face for anger, for vengeance in His stare
Instead of eyes that burned with hate a look of love was there
He prayed for their forgiveness and bowed His battered head
And no one knew the meaning of the final words He said
The provision has been made
The foundation has been laid
He paid the ransom due and tore the temple veil in two
And opened up the way for me and you
It is finished!

Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree?
Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree?
Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree?
Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb?
Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb?
Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb?

Alas! and did my Savior bleed
And did my Sovereign die?
Would He devote that sacred head For sinners such as I?
[originally, For such a worm as I?]
Refrain
At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light,
And the burden of my heart rolled away, It was there by faith I received my sight,
And now I am happy all the day!
Thy body slain, sweet Jesus, Thine, And bathed in its own blood; While all exposed to wrath divine, The glorious Sufferer stood.
Was it for crimes that I had done He groaned upon the tree? Amazing pity! grace unknown! And love beyond degree!
Well might the sun in darkness hide And shut his glories in,
When Christ, the mighty Maker died, For man the creatures sin.
Thus might I hide my blushing face While His dear cross appears, Dissolve my heart in thankfulness, And melt my eyes to tears.
But drops of grief can neer repay The debt of love I owe:
Here, Lord, I give my self away
Tis all that I can do.

Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Are you fully trusting in His grace this hour?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Refrain
Are you washed in the blood,
In the soul cleansing blood of the Lamb?
Are your garments spotless? Are they white as snow?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Are you walking daily by the Saviors side?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Do you rest each moment in the Crucified?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Refrain
When the Bridegroom cometh will your robes be white?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Will your soul be ready for the mansions bright,
And be washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Refrain
Lay aside the garments that are stained with sin,
And be washed in the blood of the Lamb;
Theres a fountain flowing for the soul unclean,
O be washed in the blood of the Lamb!
Refrain

Years I spent in vanity and pride,
Caring not my Lord was crucified,
Knowing not it was for me He died on Calvary.
Refrain
Mercy there was great, and grace was free;
Pardon there was multiplied to me;
There my burdened soul found liberty at Calvary.
By Gods Word at last my sin I learned;
Then I trembled at the law Id spurned,
Till my guilty soul imploring turned to Calvary.
Refrain
Now Ive given to Jesus everything,
Now I gladly own Him as my King,
Now my raptured soul can only sing of Calvary!
Refrain
Oh, the love that drew salvations plan!
Oh, the grace that brought it down to man!
Oh, the mighty gulf that God did span at Calvary!

Far dearer than all that the world can impart, Was the message that came to my heart;
How that Jesus alone for my sin did atone, And Calvary covers it all:
Refrain
Calvary covers it all. My past with its sin and stain, my guilt and despair Jesus took on Him there, and Calvary covers it all.
Refrain
The stripes that He bore and the thorns that He wore,
Told His mercy and love evermore
And my heart bowed in shame, as I called on His name;
And Calvary covers it all:
Refrain
How matchless the grace, when I looked on His face;
Of this Jesus, my crucfied Lord,
My redeemption complete, I'll be found at His feet;
And Calvary covers it all:
Refrain
How blessed the thought, that my soul by Him bought,
Shall be His in the glory on high;
Where with gladness and song, I'll be one of the throng,
And Calvary covers it all:

In the cross of Christ I glory,
Towering oer the wrecks of time;
All the light of sacred story
Gathers round its head sublime.
When the woes of life oertake me,
Hopes deceive, and fears annoy,
Never shall the cross forsake me,
Lo! it glows with peace and joy.
When the sun of bliss is beaming
Light and love upon my way,
From the cross the radiance streaming
Adds more luster to the day.
Bane and blessing, pain and pleasure,
By the cross are sanctified;
Peace is there that knows no measure,
Joys that through all time abide.
In the cross of Christ I glory,
Towering oer the wrecks of time;
All the light of sacred story
Gathers round its head sublime.

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
Refrain
It is well, with my soul,
It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.
Refrain
My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!
Refrain
And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
Even so, it is well with my soul.

I hear the Savior say,
Thy strength indeed is small;
Child of weakness, watch and pray,
Find in Me thine all in all.
Refrain
Jesus paid it all,
All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow.
For nothing good have I
Whereby Thy grace to claim,
Ill wash my garments white
In the blood of Calvarys Lamb.
Refrain
And now complete in Him
My robe His righteousness,
Close sheltered neath His side,
I am divinely blest.
Refrain
Lord, now indeed I find
Thy power and Thine alone,
Can change the lepers spots
And melt the heart of stone.
Refrain
When from my dying bed
My ransomed soul shall rise,
crying Jesus paid it all,
Shall rend the vaulted skies.
Refrain
And when before the throne
I stand in Him complete,
Ill lay my trophies down
All down at Jesus feet.
Refrain
