I know a lot of people are praising Ms. Rice, and I think she did well (although I though she settled for a double when she needed to hit it out of the park.)
However, in this bastion of partisanship, there are only a few people who stand out as seriously looking for reasons AND solutions - pointing out continuing problems without pandering or shooting for any partisan brownie points.
John Lehman. (Other than the fact he's probably making money hand over fist in equities,) how the hell is this guy not serving in a position of power? It's not like he's an unknown after serving in the Reagan administration.
Insightful and specific questions, while maintaining respect for the witnesses - and getting important answers.
He seems to know a lot about what's going on, and even more importantly - to borrow from the Rumsfeld file - he knows what he doesn't know...
I'd back a Rice/Lehman ticket in 2008 in a heartbeat.

I seem to recall Lehman's name bandied about in 2000 when possible VP selections for GWB were being talked about. He is very cool and "fair", although I hope he doesn't play the old Republican naivety game of being too fair while the partisan Democrats roll them.

There is only one thing that needed to be realized during this whole deal and Lehman nailed it. 4 inch knives were legal to carry on airplanes...the folks carrying the knives boarded the planes legally...and then 9/11 happened.
It just doesn't leave much room for drama...just embarrassment...so nonsensical tangents need to be constructed.

And .. thanks to Al Gore's greed, the airline/airport safety changes did not get made, because Gore agreed not to for them, if they would contribute to his campaign.

Apparently nobody wants to praise that sewer diver for anything since the "Boy Scouts" comment.
