[history]
"The Americans think we are afraid while we recognise them as cowards," said the young man, the commander of this small band of fighters in this village. "We have many heroes who are standing here and elsewhere. We will not be afraid of their tanks and their weapons and their other equipment. We will stay until we defeat them."

but we'd venture to say the U.S. Marines can handle these guys. I'd bet on it

Rats might run away from helicopters, but they still do a lot of damage.

Too Funny! Full of lies and meaningless propaganda aren't they? I guess their parents forgot to properly brainwash their children.

Rats might run away from helicopters, but they still do a lot of damage. Yes, I know.
But, don't miss the context of their fleeing in this particular case.
To: Right_in_Virginia
I recognize the value of their fleeing. My point is those that flee often run away and snipe.

Taking cover is not cowardice. I wish we stopped calling these people cowards. They are scum but they are not cowards.

Oh but they are! Cowards hide in Mosques and behind women and children.

Cowards hide in Mosques and behind women and children. Not always: they also face death when they blow themselves up to order to kill our own women and children.

Just look at the Palestinians now....they are now using women and children as human attack bombs.

Suicide bombers aren't afraid of death, they're AFRAID OF LIFE!

No, not really. Some people, misguided they may be, can CHOOSE to live for their virtue or not live --- to paraphrase Nietzsche.
Calling them cowards is factually incorrect and does us disservice. We have to know them for who they actually are -- and kill them.

You must admit, their actions present a humorous contrast to their words! Call it "boast and run."
"We will not be afraid of their tanks and their weapons and their other equipment. We will stay until we defeat them."
Suddenly the gunmen scattered, unnerved by the sound of an approaching US helicopter. Villagers who had been standing in the street fled into their shops and houses and, within seconds, the crossroads was deserted

I am with you on that. I too found it humorous -- please forgive me for being serious about it: it's a carryover from hearing this characterization all the time.
But you are right: I wish I was there to see them run and to have a good laugh.

Suicide bombers can't accept life as it is, and can't find a way to change it, short of killing themselves and others.
Just because someone is not afraid of physical pain or death does not mean that person is "courageous." In a sense, that person is afraid to go on living.

By using the word "coward" I don't mean to underestimate them. You should never underestimate your enemy in a war situation.
Mock, yes, underestimate, no.
