A REAL WOMAN: Mexican Woman Performs Own Caesarian to Save Baby

LONDON (Reuters) - A woman in Mexico gave birth to a healthy baby boy after performing a Caesarian section on herself with a kitchen knife, doctors said Tuesday.

The unidentified 40-year-old woman, who lived in a rural area without electricity, running water or sanitation and was an eight-hour drive from the nearest hospital, performed the operation when she could not deliver the baby naturally.

She had lost a previous baby due to labor complications.

"She took three small glasses of hard liquor and, using a kitchen knife, sliced her abdomen in three attempts ... and delivered a male infant that breathed immediately and cried," said Dr R.F. Valle, of the Dr. Manuel Velasco Suarez Hospital in San Pablo, Mexico.

Valle recounted the event in a report in the International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics.

"This case represents an unusual and extraordinary decision by a women in labor who, unable to deliver herself spontaneously, and with no medical help or resources, decided to perform a Caesarian section upon herself," Valle said.

This woman is remarkably pro-life - and she earned indisputable queen of 'labor pains' bragging rights hands down!

Contrast this lady's actions to the BS about saving the mother using so called partial birth abortion. This lady risked her own life by her own hand to save the baby. Wow!

It's unclear from the article, however, if she drank the hard liquor or sterilized the knife with it. :-)

I have to admit that I was really impressed with the story about a guy who cut off his leg trapped by a fallen tree in the middle of the woods to save himself - but this story tops that one since she risked her life for another. Although he did use a pen knife...

It's nearly impossible to find such articles. There could be 100 threads and search might not find any of them. The C-section article was a big hit here, but the camel spider topped even that.

I didn't hear that story about the guy in the woods. I remember the one from a year or more ago about the hiker/rock climber who had a rock fall on his arm/leg?? cant remember which. After several days he cut it off.
