A CONGRESSMAN SPOKE AT MY COMPANY'S STAFF MEETING TODAY (VANITY)
RUCKUS INC

Posted on 04/07/2004 3:31:11 PM PDT by RUCKUS INC.

It just occurred to me that I should probably share with my fellow Freepers that Congressman Gary Miller (R - 42nd Congressional District) spoke at my company's staff meeting this morning.

Congressman Miller is an extremely funny man and he came to announce the passage of a new bill that makes it OK for Credit Unions to lend past their legal lending limit when lending to a religious institution.

Anyway, he shared some of his insights on endangered species that had me holding my sides.

"The gnat-catcher isn't an endangered species... he's just lost. Go down to Central America and you'll see millions of them... we shouldn't protect these birds... we should pack them up and ship them back home!"

Anyway, kind of hard to recreate his delivery and what not but I just thought I should share with you all that Congressman Miller is a man of faith and has a great sense of humor. I really enjoyed the time he spent with us.

He's a great guy. I spent a couple weeks working on his first Assembly campaign when we were working to recall former Assemblyman Paul Horcher.

If you are going to post a vanity, how about fleshing it out a bit. If it is important enough for a thread in news/activism perhaps you could tell us a little more, like where this is.

I'd like to know a bit more about this.

Just because an instituion is religious does not mean it is financially sound.

"Sorry Dad, your pension ain't worth squat, it seems the religious institution went broke."

Something here sounds very strange.

Is there someone here who can enlighten me?

Yeah... basically this has to do with the legal lending limit and not the religious institution. I work for a credit union that frequently does loans to churches (in the interest of full disclosure, that is about all that we do). So right now our legal lending limit is $7,000,000.00 per loan. Frequently we get churches that want to take out loans that are above and beyond this limit.

What we are then forced to do is loan them up to our legal lending limit and aquire the rest of the funds through a network of investors that participate in the loan with us. This new legislation just says that we can lend ALL of the money that we are comfortable lending.

It doesn't make a religious institution more or less credit worthy than they already were, it simply changes the way we can give them money.

Or... you could just read the Topic list where it says US:California and infer that the "where" is California. Perhaps you could flesh that out a little bit.
