Excerpts of a top-secret document detailing possible military options against al Qaeda and the Taliban - planned prior to Sept. 11, 2001 - were released by the White House yesterday. The document, called the National Security Presidential Directive, was finalized on Sept. 4, a week before the terrorist attacks.

In his tell-all book, Clarke asserts that the first time he mentioned al Qaeda to Rice, in January 2001, "her facial expression gave me the impression that she had never heard the term before." Except in October 2000, Rice gave a radio interview in which she discussed al Qaeda. So much for facial expressions.

The document is publicly available, though no U.S. media outlets have examined it in the context of Mr. Clarke's testimony and new book.

Further evidence condemning the partisan press. I am just so happy the citizenry has internet, talk radio and some reasonable dialogue on the cable dial out there: at least some of the truth is being given air.

Osama obviously was not behind that. Osama's in Iran, and this uprising in Iraq was inspired by Tehran. They are hoping for a Kerry victory, and this is the hand they are playing.
