Just lovely!

Ah, Easter traditions. Well, definitely painting Easter eggs. This year I bought some duck eggs at a farmer's market -- these are slightly bigger and have a harder shell. My 4-year old niece came over and painted them -- just beautifully -- using tempra paint. Her mother and I used some gold leaf on our eggs to give a special, shiney glow. My boyfriend judged the contest for the best eggs, with instructions -- the fix was in -- to pick my niece's eggs to win 1st, 2nd, and third prize!

But oops, once of my more "abstract" eggs was selected by him for second!! I whispered that he was supposed to pick my little niece's eggs to win! He whispered back with frustration that he was trying but it was hard to tell her eggs from mine!!! Hee hee.

After her nap, we took the niece to tea at the Ritz-Carlton. She wore a lovely shiney yellow Easter dress, white stockings, and a white sweater. She looked darling. She did insist on wearing her pink bunny ears to the tea, and the wait staff loved them and asked her questions such as, "Does the young lady bunny want more hot chocolate?"

I love to paint Easter eggs. I buy fancy ribbons of various sorts and tie loopy blows on the bottom of the knot that I use to hang them from the tree. This year I experimented with wire ribbon to make loopy bows atop the egg to simulate bunny ears.

I hope tea with my darling niece becomes a new Easter tradition.

Enjoyed reading about the Easter traditions you shared with your niece.
That's funny about your boyfriend not being able to tell the difference between the eggs she decorated and yours.
I haven't decorated an egg in ages! It can be so messy.

Hi Free. Cute calendar and thanks for sharing the story about your niece. Decorating eggs was very BIG when I was a child. And ofcourse dressing up. We lived in a rural area next door to my grandparents as well as aunt, uncle and cousins. My grandfather would give my brother, two cousins and I each a live bunny every easter. He had a barn where we would keep them although we lost interest in them the day after easter.

They would "mysteriously run away" about a week later. I now suspect they were dinner. Mom still won't admit it!

Did you get a picture of her in here outfit with the ears?

Living alone, I don't have any traditions. When my son was little we did the Easter Eggs and the bunny always built a nest for him to find on Easter morning.
