Rodriguez reasserts intention to legally challenge recount result (Texas CD 28)

U.S. Rep. Ciro Rodriguez once again called into question the election results in Webb and Zapata counties in his congressional race against Laredo lawyer Henry Cuellar and said he remains committed to filing a civil lawsuit this week.

"If I personally felt that I had lost this election, I wouldn't mind saying 'This is it,' but I didn't lose this election," Rodriguez said at a news conference today at the Mexican restaurant El Mirador. "We're going to knock this off. I feel confident we're going to knock this off."

Cuellar, a former colleague of Rodriguez, lost to the incumbent by 145 votes after the March 9 primary, but called for a recount in the 11-county district. The recount resulted in a reversal of Rodriguez's lead and boosted Cuellar to a lead of 203 votes, with the lion's share coming from his hometown region of Webb and Zapata counties.

Tuesday, Rodriguez was joined by several elected officials and supporters, including City Councilmen Enrique Barrera and Richard Perez, former state Sen. Joe Bernal and fellow congressman Charlie Gonzalez, who impugned the latest election results that give Cuellar a 203-vote lead in the race.

"This is an incredible result. This is beyond belief. There is something wrong," said Gonzalez, whose own re-election effort could be challenged by his former wife, Becky Whetstone. She is considering a run for the 20th Congressional District as an independent candidate.

Don't care who wins... just so long as the fight to determine the winner is expensive and protracted.

Cuellar is more likely to support restrictions on abortion, but the liberal "Zero" Gonzalez is a cradle-to-the-grave diehard on the subject of a "woman's choice."

Oh, boy, it's Palm Beach County all over again. I hope Ciro Rodriguez loses. Cueller is slightly less liberal and less partisian than Rodriguez.

There is a Republican runoff Tuesday in Dist. 28 between men named "Canseco" a(Laredo businessman) and "James Hopson" (of Seguin). Hopson was the top votegetter on March 9. The district is at least 64 percent Democrat.

I know that Hopson got some 49%+ but less than 50% in the primary but the Texas GOP site isn't showing a run off and they are showing runoffs for the other races.... I was wondering if maybe the others dropped out........
