One of last Lenin statues smashed

ONE of the few remaining statues of Vladimir Illich Lenin in St Petersburg, the city that formerly bore his name, was pulled down and smashed by persons unknown, police said on Tuesday.

The statue of the founder of the Soviet Union was toppled and broken into several pieces in the St Petersburg suburb of Pushkin, they said.

After the Russian revolution of 1917, the former imperial capital was renamed Leningrad, but reverted to St Petersburg after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.

Although many of the thousands of statues of Lenin erected throughout the country still remain, there are very few in St Petersburg.

A recent opinion poll carried out by the Romir agency found that almost two thirds of respondents considered that Lenin had played a positive role in the country's history.

No,the statue of the scumbo Feliks Dzerzinsky is NOT back up in front of Lubyanka Prison, the former KGB headquarters. It is back up, but its in south Moscow in an outof the way area over the objections of most Muscovites.

Now take the evil old SOB's corpse out of that glass coffin, burn it on a rubbish dump and be done with him.

I think in St. Petersburg I saw a statue of Lenin's wife. She opposed Stalin's use of Lenin after he died. She did not want her husband to be memorialized that way. Luckily Stalin was never able to erect his greatest monument to Lenin, a 1,034' tower topped with a 328' statue of Lenin. Unfortunately for Russia, the lost one of the greatest cathedrals ever built, cathedral of Christ the redeemer.

The former head of Romanian intelligence seems to indicate it is back where it was:

Regardless, former KGB officers wanted it back up, because Russian intelligence and certain parts of the political establishment look back on the Soviet era as "the good ol' days."

I agree with you, we should do away with him, however, the Russian Orthodox Church would never condone cremation in a public setting such as this.

"Now take the evil old SOB's corpse out of that glass coffin, burn it on a rubbish dump and be done with him."

Amen to that. A vicious, sadistic man who founded the modern totalitarian police state. Not a single redeeming virtue. Feed his wax carcass to the rats.

I'd heard that Seattle was a haven for leftists; however, I had no idea they had a statue of Lenin. That's pathetic.
