Singer Alanis Morissette wore a "nude suit" on stage at Canada's equivalent of the Grammys to complain about censorship in the US. Morissette, who was hosting the Juno Awards in Edmonton on Sunday, wore the cartoon-style bodysuit in protest at TV and radio censorship in the US.
"We can't show nipples on national TV," she said in relation to Janet Jackson's Super Bowl incident. "I am proud to be able to stand here and do this," she told the audience.
"We live in a land where we still think the human body is beautiful and we're not afraid of the female breast," the singer said, after stepping out of a dressing gown to reveal her "nudity".
'They're scared'
Morissette then criticised a radio station in the US for forcing her to change strong language in one of her recent songs. "They're in an era when they're scared, when there's lots of fear," she said.
The Juno awards were this year dominated by Montreal's Sam Roberts, who picked up three awards. Pop singer Nelly Furtado won best single for What You Want, while singer Sarah McLachlan won best songwriter. Rock band Nickelback took best group.
Morissette, who became an overnight sensation for her 1995 album Jagged Little Pill, releases a new album in May.

How daring! A Canadian who has the -- gasp! -- courage to criticize the USA.
Wow! I'm sure she'll soon be ridiculing Muslims.

Lessee. She went to free Canada to protest U.S. censorship that (thankfully) won't let her take her clothes off but she had to wear a body suit because Canada doesn't allow people to take their clothes off.
More proof there's no entrance exam to get into Hollywood.

What a cop out! If she really wanted to make a point, she should have shown real skin. I wonder just what the reaction would have been like then.
How about the whole nation of Canada vomiting at once. The only thing more repulsive than her (actual) nudity would have been to play her hideous music.

I wonder if the video in which she appeared naked ran un-edited in Canada as well. If she is proud of her nude body, more power to her. But that does not mean I want to see it. And for crying out loud, do not sing while naked. I can only take so much!

What do you mean by that comment, we have defended our country from attack quite successfully, particularly from attacks emanating from our southern neighbour. Unless someone else has attacked us that I am not aware of. In fact, we have even helped America defend itself from direct attack by the Japanese in WW2. You may not like Canada or Canadians, that is your perogative, but please do not post myths.

If that is her example of the "beautiful" naked body then I would hate to see her idea of an ugly naked body. Hoofah.

Yes, Canada did very well in the War of 1812 and yes, both Countries freaked out at the Alutian Island invasions in WWII.
I enjoy my Canadian neighbors, I try to watch the National at least once a week for a substantially different perspective on world news. I especially like Rex Murphy's take on things. However, I will point out that defending one's country also includes deterence and direct you to the following. Please note the last paragraph of what the Canadian News service says about Canada's military protecting Canada.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/cdmilitary.html
CBC News.."...Like it or not, Canada relies heavily on its big brother to the south for its safety or perception of safety. Without the U.S. safety blanket, Canada would have to radically change the way it plans its defences."
To: albertabound
fact, we have even helped America defend itself from direct attack by the Japanese in WW2.With all that's gone on in the world, don't you find it odd that you had to go back 62 years to find something to respond with?

Canada and most of the rest of the free world does now and has long relied on Uncle Sam for protection during my lifetime. Canada just happens to be closest.
Thank the Lord Uncle is a benevolent kinda guy and will hopefully cut us a bit of slack. 9/11 caught us all with our pants down so we are playing military catchup, turfing out liberals, doing our bit in Afghanistan and so we are very busy at the moment.

I think that poster was just alluding to the fact that if it weren't for the big effort the US spends on defense, in money and time and personal, countries like Canada couldn't survive.....
its pretty easy to act like the superior moral authority when you have the good old USA to do the dirty work.....

Yes we would, we happen to be your next door neighbour and thereby fall under the defense umbrella. We are well aware and sincerely appreciate that. However, have been able to stand on our own two feet for a few hundred years now while carving out a living on the frigid real estate Uncle Sam didn't want. The Unites States of America should have united the whole damn continent when they had the chance, including Quebec and we all would have been better off.
As for acting morally superior, seriously, would you like us any better if we played step and fetchit all the time. From my personal experience, you guys do not hesitate to shit down our throats when we do not toe the line . Are we not entitled to the same priviledge, after all, we are family and like to tease you guys a bit.
