MALIBU, Calif. - Kenneth W. Starr, who led the investigation into President Clinton's relationship with Monica Lewinsky, has been named dean of the Pepperdine University School of Law, a school official said.
Starr first accepted the position in 1997 ago but changed his mind after he was criticized for abandoning the Whitewater investigation into the Clintons' real estate dealings.
The appointment, which was to be officially announced Tuesday, followed a more than six-month national search, said Brad Cheves, the university's vice president for advancement and public affairs.
Starr, a longtime guest lecturer at Malibu-based Pepperdine, was acting as independent counsel when he led the Lewinsky investigation, which ended with the first impeachment of a president since 1868.
He has since has argued cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and taught at New York University Law School.
Starr, a partner at Kirkland & Ellis in Washington and former federal appeals court judge and U.S. solicitor general, will begin work at Pepperdine on August 1.

Glad he is finally getting to do this. How fortunate for Pepperdine.

Me too!! Not only is Pepperdine getting a wonderful leader and proponent of the truth, Mr. Starr is going to live in a B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L community. I'm TOTALLY jealous!!

I met Judge Starr at the Mass Family banquet. He's an absolutely unassuming and wonderful man. Aside from being a fabulous lecturer and speaker, without a hint of that nasality that TV stations always seem to give him.

    DARN! DARN!

I was hoping President Bush would name Judge Starr to the bench in a recess appointment.

Oh well. There's always Judge Bork.... ;)

I hope Pepperdine can prosper under Judge Starr and become the pre-eminent "conservative" law school in the country. Right now, I know of precious few law schools that have a conservative (or even a non-liberal)reputation besides the University of Chicago for its law and economics emphasis.
