Not quite.

Judea was, at the time an "Allied Kingdom" of Rome's. ( At Judea's request)

This is a nice euphamism for "protertorate" and it was due to ROMAN law that the Jews were not allowed to simply off somebody at will .

( there were a few things for which they could, but being a political threat was not on that list)


But, what you said was true: Pilate WAS set up and lost his slot as Govornor due to the incident.
