Daylight-Saving Time Is Back

Apr 3, 2004

The Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) - Daylight-saving time has returned. For most Americans, that meant setting clocks one hour ahead Saturday night. The official change came at 2 a.m. local time.

Folks who forgot were an hour late Sunday for church, work or other events.

Daylight-saving time lasts until Oct. 31.

Safety officials suggest the annual ritual also is a good time to change batteries in smoke detectors to ensure they will work if needed.

Some parts of the country don't observe daylight-saving time: Arizona, Hawaii, the part of Indiana in the Eastern time zone, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and American Samoa.

AP is truly an American treasure, eh?

Methinks they are actually just hoping lots of folks miss church. They hate church over at the AP.

For three hours, New York will be ("was") four hours ahead of California, instead of three. Perhaps even more interestingly, for an hour New York, Indianapolis, and Chicago will all be ("were all") at different times.

This Sunday is DST and next Sunday is Easter, and you'll need to get your Easter undies before then.

If there is a 'then'. To help there be a 'then', click the pick, support FR:

A bar bet:

Ask the victim: What is the 2nd and 3rd shortest month of the year.
The victim will know that Feb is the shortest month, he MIGHT think that Feb in Leap year is the second shortest month with 29 full days, but in reality April is the second shortest month with 29 days and 23 hours on a regular year, and 3rd shortest in leap year.

Of course, Oct is the 2nd longest month of the year with 30 days and one hour.

Nowadays they can match whatever you want.   Back in the old days spring was when you got new undies and Easter became the target date.   :)

As one who gets up at 5AM everyday to walk, I am not looking forward to tomorrow morning. The last few weeks have been great because I have been walking in broad daylight. Tomorrow it's back to the darkness. But at least the days are still getting rapidly longer. Within a couple of weeks, I'll be back in the sunlight again and will remain so until September.

Having the extra hour of daylight at the end of the day will be nice though.

Isn't it the longest month?
