The trick is to convince the legal and contributing 'Americans of mexican heritage' that the old country is just that ... it should NOT be allowed to spring north lest it destroy what they themselves value here.,

Except for the "professiona Latino" political types, most don't need much convincing. A Tejano friend, a very dark complected one, from near Corpus Christi, surprised my wife about 25 years ago with a remark about "those darn Mexicans".

Only flaw is that politicians from both parties are playing to the 'representatives' they are most familiar with, and comfortable with.
That pretty much leaves both of my next door neighbors out of the discussion.
