The Mexicans, Puerto Ricans and Central Americans, etc. coming to the U.S. push for the adoption of THEIR language as an offical tongue in the United States, equal with english. They violate U.S. laws consistently (arriving illegally, avoiding taxation, committing crime at an astronomical rate compared to whites). The Arab/Muslim immigrants plan to turn the U.S. into an Islamic state. Hey OK!- so only 40% of them are thumbs up on that one- that's a problem in my eyes. The Chinese are from a nation with which we will probably be in a shooting war within 20 years I think there is a bit of hyperbole there. When I lived in Florida, the Spanish cable station had commericals constantly on about learning English. Anecdotal maybe, but look at the facts and you will see that English is the lingua franca of the world, especially in business. The French are really pissed about that.
JMO, but I take you above italicized passage as being a little bit strong on Chicken Little.
If there is an emphasis on learning english, why are there spanish language signs all over the place? Why do the hispanics resist attempts to have english declared as the only language acceptable in local jurisdictions? Why do they not want english recognized as the national language? Why do the politically hooked-in hispanic groups (which might in this matter represent a minority of hispanic opinion) push for continued bi-lingual education in schools?
