This issue is complicated and no person fit's every mold.

The justice system will likely get this right.

If she deserves it, she should be punished too the degree that she is complicit in the crime of false reporting.

We, as a society must take illness into account, but not to excuse everything and everybody.

That would be way too lenient and stupid. And that is not what I was suggesting.

The woman has to learn that there are consequences for her criminal behavior. If she doesn't understand what she did now, she should be given plenty of jail time to consider it.
