He helped prepare actress Demi Moore for her role as the first woman to join the Navy SEALs in "G.I. Jane," and appeared on two reality series: "Man vs. Beast" and "Combat Missions."

But after years out of the service, friends said they weren't surprised to learn the former SEAL had left the comfort of his life in California behind him and headed for Iraq.

Link to an article on Scott Helvenston's fitness company on his site

I remember him from the USA Network reality show Combat Missions. The show was a wargame competition pitting teams of experts in different scenarios. He was one of, and arguably the most fit, among an assembly of Seal, SWAT, SF, Marine and other Elite operators. It was an exciting show and this man was very impressive.

It is an outrage he and the others were killed guarding food convoys for these people.

I hope our response is commensurate with what was done to these men. I doubt if it will be as savage, for in no case are these loathsome animals our teachers. At the same time we should still be very severe.

Scott Helvenston.

Murdered, his body burned to bits then cut up into pieces then hung from a bridge.

I heard they fed some of them to the dogs after that.

"Fallujah" should be a name remembered by Americans for a long time. And Fallujah should be made to cry a river of tears, not a minute later, but NOW.

I think that in the interest of humanity we should give the women and children 36 hours to leave Fallujah before leveling it.

My prayers are for Scott and his family.

But after years out of the service, friends said they weren't surprised to learn the former SEAL had left the comfort of his life in California behind him and headed for Iraq.

"That's what, in a time of need, true American warriors like Scott would do," "Combat Missions" producer Mark Burnett said Thursday.

No disrespect, but Mr. Helvenston went to Iraq not as a American solider or warrior but as a very well paid employee for Blackwater Security. Pay is up to $250,000 year (much of it can be tax free) plus expenses for security personnel with SOF experience.

Amen! I hope we aren't dainty in our "measured" response. These folks are used to the Mailed Fist, I say give it to them.

It is doubly approprite as FALLUJAH was a Bathist stronghold and the people who did this were probably members or beneficiaries of the Saddam regieme. There will certainly be less innocent or friendly Iraqis there than in most of the country.

A fellow Freeper has suggested that we use the example of Carthage: Seal off the city, announce that the people have 24 hours to evacuate through checkpoints where they will be body-cavity searched, burn the city to the ground, plow it under and then salt the soil.

Sounds good to me. They had their chance.

Only the first $80K is tax free. And you have to do 330 days overseas to get the exemption.

I remember him from the USA Network reality show Combat Missions.

I don’t have cable or satellite TV, but at one time he had some sort of fitness videos. They were The Navy SEAL Workout series or something like that.

My recollection is that he was a SEAL but got busted up pretty bad. IIRC, his main chute failed to deploy and he had to use the secondary but hit real hard and busted up his legs bad. (Somebody will correct if it’s wrong – but I’m almost positive that was him.) Healed up and worked through it though. At some point he was an Olympic pentathlete too, but not sure whether that was before or after… I’m thinking it was afterwards.

Hadn’t thought of him in years…

Seal off the city

Some of the news stories have mantioned that Fallujah has been cordoned-off. Don't know if that's true but it would seem the logical thing to do, at least to secure all the roads into and out of the city.

Strange that there hasn't been a single news report on preps since yesterday. The silence is deafening.

America could kill one thousand of the worthless scum in Fallujah in exchange for each of these guys' lives and still come out losers in the transaction.

We need men like them too badly.

According to this Budget Update the cost of a soldier in Iraq costs $14,900 a month or $178,800 a year per Congressional Budget Office (CBO). Soldiers deployed are not available to all necessary tasks in country and at any level are not cheap to the taxpayer. You could not use the typical security guard to do these tasks anyway. The premium pay is a secondary issue to the availability of troops and Helvenston or any of the others were worth every cent.

banana...Dont cover your crude remarks with a "military" cloak.

You did nothing out of the ordinary. Almost all of us here at FR did our thing also, so dont hide behind what you did.

Out of respect you should have said nothing.
