US Promises to Punish Those Responsible for Gruesome Iraq Attacks

The top U.S. official in Iraq says Wednesday's gruesome attacks on four American civilians whose burned bodies were put on display in the town of Fallujah will not go unpunished.

"It's going to be deliberate, it will be precise and it will be overwhelming," U.S. General Mark Kimmitt said, speaking to reporters in Baghdad. He warned insurgents in the town of Fallujah to be prepared for U.S. forces to strike back following Wednesday's killing of four American contractors by a frenzied mob that dragged their charred bodies through the streets.

Televised footage of the act has provoked outrage from Americans in the United States and led U.S. administrator in Baghdad Paul Bremer to issue a warning.

"Their deaths will not go unpunished," he promised.

The White House blamed the attacks on supporters of Saddam Hussein. The remains of the four were to be turned over to the U.S. military.

A day after the attack, three American soldiers were injured in another attack near Fallujah, this time when their Humvee struck a roadside bomb.

That's what I'm thinking as well. All these thefts of equipment, explosives, trucks, uniforms, etc are simply to gather the tools they will need. Many of these train derailments, tanker accidents, etc are probes to test our response.

Remember they anticipated this, and warned their people to stop worshipping at the mosques, or they would be surrounded by "rabid americans" wanting to retaliate?

Agreed. I wonder if we will be going to a higher level of alert. I know supposedly we are on "orange" in all major cities, anyway- but keeping that quiet does not inform people of what is truly going on.

I would guess that the truck has been repainted by now. Maybe DHS should be looking at muslim-owned auto shops in the tristate area.

U.S., ASIAN FORCES PLAN MILITARY EXERCISES

WASHINGTON, April 21 (UPI) -- U.S. forces will join military from Thailand, Singapore, Mongolia and the Philippines for military exercises in Thailand next month to test combat readiness.

The U.S. Department of Defense issued a statement Wednesday stating the operation, called Cobra Gold 2004, has been scheduled for May 13-27. The exercises will test combat readiness and join operation capabilities, the release stated.
