How many planes and crews were lost in the Dresden raid? How many were lost in the Tokyo Raid? How many Americans were killed at Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

Actually, we cannot compare the two. It was estimated that a million people would die in an invasion of Japan. The two nukes actually saved lives. There is still an ongoing controversy about the morality of Dresden.

I still stand by my statement that I am glad I am not in charge. However, I cannot advocate the use of nuclear weapons.

I cannot and do not advocate the use of nuclear weapons. I asked about the losses to the Americans to counter Tomas' inference that no lives needed to be put at risk in order to "level the city," when in fact, in his examples, a great number of American lives were lost, despite the losses on the ground.

Like you, I'm glad I'm not in charge.
