Reread the article. The organizations that work with the Republican side of the Judiciary confirm that they were told Miranda resigned so that the pubs could focus on the content of the memos. The article also quotes a republican strategist that told of a meeting of Senate Pubs where the same conclusion was reached--by Miranda leaving they could get back to the substance of the memos.

I am concerned Hatch is worrying about his legacy more than the serious criminality in those memos. This is not just partisian bickering. The Senate Pubs on the whole are a huge disappointment to me. They can't get together and fight on issues like the dems do. I don't want them to be unethical like the dems, just get on the talk shows and newscasts when certain issues come up and stand behind Bush when the dems are lying. They seem to forget that Bush bailed them out during the 2002 mid term elections and took a political risk doing so.

Hagel and McCain are worse than dems because they give the media a way to say "even republicans agree with the democrats. Sen. Chuck Hagel said today "(or McCain, take your pick. ) Add Chafee to the weinie list too. For a while Lott went on MSNBC alot to take pot shots at Bush, but maybe his bitterness has calmed down. I do really like our newest Senator Cornyn, miss Sen.Gramm and Sen. Thompson.

I did - but Weyrich's saying he is not aware of any such promise to Miranda by Frist and/or Hatch.

The stuff in that NAACP memo is pretty damning - they conspired with the Demcorats on the Senate Judiciary Committee to rig an appeals court decision.

My beef is that Miranda did not tell Hatch (who he was working for) about that the moment he saw the memo. Nor did he apparently tell Frist when he started to work for him. Hatch and Frist probably found out when they opened the papers. Miranda's job was to make sure they knew about it BEFORE they opened the papers. He did not do it. Hatch and Frist were blind-sided.

How can I take his version of events at face value? I'm really not sure I can.
