The unadjusted numbers aren't fair to movies made many decades ago. Inflation makes recent movie groces more impressive than they really are.

They'd be fair if they just represented number of tickets sold without reference to ticket price.

I know one woman who has seen the film who is planning to see it again over Easter weekend. How many other people are like her?

Right here. I've seen it twice as a matter o' fact. I can't wait to see it again after I read this interpretation of aspects I hadn't picked up on before. Passion of the Christ: Notes on the Symbolism. Its a great read for anybody who's seen the movie and loves to think about underlying symbolism.

Many of the older films are multiple releases, because there were no DVDs or VCRs back then. I first saw Gone With the Wind in a movie theater in the 60's or 70's.

How is that accounted for in inflation-adjusted revenue figures? If a film made its debut when tickets were $1.00, but was later rereleased when tickets were $5.00, do the later sales count five times as much each as the former, or are each year's ticket sales adjusted based on the year the tickets were sold, rather than the year the movie was made?
