[history]
BANGKOK, Thailand, March 29 (UPI) -- Thailand's prime minister was a tycoon before he entered politics but that didn't stop his daughter from taking a job at a Bangkok McDonald's restaurant.
Paethongtan, the youngest daughter of Thaksin Shinawatra, even served her telecom magnate-turned-prime minister father two McFish and one Big Mac sets when he showed at the restaurant, the Bangkok Post reported.

Thai don't eat cat, or dog.
They have a large Chinese poplulation though who will eat dog.
In fact I have eaten dog in Bangkok's China town way back in the 60's.

I have no idea as to why anyone in Thailand (or Vietnam or Korea) would *possibly* want to eat at a McDonalds
no reason for it
too much de-damn-licious Thai food around to bother with McDs

My niece in Ban Rong Gart, upon hearing of Thaksin's daughter's desire to "rough it" last year by working fast food, was anxious to trade places with her during rice planting season when the rains come. I am not sure if this is so much for public consumption or a reflection of just how out of touch rich Thais are.

Thais are highly class conscious, and service people enjoy low status, so this is really something of a revolutionary move on the part of the PM and his daughter.

Because the kids there want to be us. That has to be it. Theres no other explanation.
Ive known a couple of Korean families that moved to the U.S. Their kids were born and raised in Korea eating rice and kimchee for breakfast since they were able to eat solid food. Moved here and inside a week theyre begging for Cocoa Puffs and Lucky Charms
Actually, I cant disagree with their wanting a change from kimchee for breakfast, but its interesting how quickly they want to eat something that is essentially candy for breakfast having gone their entire lives never having had it. Also that they traditionally dont consume a lot of dairy products, so not only are they eating candy for breakfast, theyre eating it with milk
very strange, but wanting to fit in or be American would explain it.
Meanwhile, I've developed quite a craving for almost any Asian food. When I lived in the Bay Area I always looked around for little family-owned dives to eat at. Each one was generally better than the last.
Now I've moved to southern CA, so I'll have to start all over again to find the good places to eat Thai/Vietnamese/whatever. I'll let their kids have McD's. Ha.

Good for him. While I was a student at MIT, I had jobs working as a grocery cashier and as a cab driver. I found these jobs very educational and think that any student going to a school such as MIT, Harvard, etc., should have to hold down such a job for at least a semester.

From the BBC, "
Mr Thaksin, who himself worked at KFC while studying in the US, was one of the first customers."
Just one more example of why to be nice to everyone you meet.

Back in the 60's myself and a few friends knew, dined, and partied with Sanga Kittikachorn
the brother of PM Kittikachorn. Rich, powerful, but a nice to us.
He once offered to take us on a tiger hunt.
I declined and have regretted it ever since.
