TAIPEI, Taiwan, March 30 (UPI) -- Taiwan's re-elected, but disputed, President Chen Shui-bian inflamed mainland China Tuesday with remarks the island is an "independent country."
Despite his remarks, his nationalistic goals suffered a setback when the Caribbean island of Dominica Tuesday switched diplomatic recognition to China, reducing the number of international pro-independence allies to 26.
