After resisting for months, White House officials worked yesterday to negotiate a compromise that would allow public release of national security adviser Condoleezza Rice's testimony before the independent commission looking into the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, according to administration aides.
These aides said the White House believes Rice's refusal to testify is becoming a political problem and officials are looking for a way out. The leading possibility is for Rice to submit to another private session with the commissioners and allow them to release a transcript, the aides said.

Now is the time for this Administration to remain principled. The Commission is nothing but a show trial. Giving in will only empower Congress and Clarke. By asking Condi to testify by TV and under oath, you give Clarke credence. He is a proven liar and should not be equated with Condi--after all, that has been one of his primary goals all along.

I like the idea of releasing the previous testimony. Not only does it demonstrate that she already testified, but its a snoozer for the media.

Rice 9/11 Testimony May Be ReleasedYeah? Well, while they're at it....why not release the secret evidence that proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that Bill Klinton was a rapist?
You know, the evidence that democRATic Senators refused to look at so they could safely say that they had seen no evidence that was grounds for impeachment.
The same evidence that made some people who had seen it actually vomit?

I agree! This commission is dead on arrival! The recent polling numbers indicate the American people have watched and listened, and have been promptly turned off by the political slant! Richard Clarke was the killer! Now, his fifteen minutes of fame is up and so is the commission! The commission should be abandoned. The commission has hurt our country and has done nothing to find out the facts that were the cause of 911. It is has failed the 911 families miserably! Politics, not the good and safety of the country rules!

One thing the commission is accomplishing is letting the world see our bickering and prejudices, as well as giving the terrorists fresh ideas. :(

This whole Rice testify or not testify is just irritating. This is exactly why the BUsh administration didnt want to extend the time the commission had in the first place. He knew that if given more time they would start to politicize it to get mileage out of it for the upcoming elections...but the critics said "Nooooo we would never do that" "How dare you insult our integrity like that"
Bush agrees to extend it and walla the whole thing becomes a lets blame BUsh for 911.
I think the thing that bothers me the most about democrats is that they are lying, cheating, unintegritous, disengenuos, unethical worthless sacks of crap....yeah that about sums it up.

Oh well. FOX just said that coming across AP, the WH has decided to allow her to testify before the commission.
Breaking. Don't know anything else yet.

Condi will testify under oath and Bush/Cheney have offered to testify in front of full committee. Not too sure what else that entails.

Well, if they do it, at least they can say they are doing what Clarke wouldn't do during the Clinton administration.

"Richard Clarke was the killer! Now, his fifteen minutes of fame is up and so is the commission! The commission should be abandoned. Now each administrations going to go BYOIA, (Bring your own intelligence analysts).

He seems to be concerned only about his pocketbook, and hopefully rightfully so from now on...
