NEW DELHI : It's Made-In-India shining all over again. At a time when Indian made cars are successfully burning rubber all over the globe, DaimlerChrysler's India plant in Pune has been conferred the quality award this year for the "Best Mercedes Benz Production Plant" outside Germany for the fifth year.
The company won the award earlier in 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001.
"The award vouches for excellent quality of cars produced in India and of course, the excellent processes existing, without which it would be impossible to produce cars of this high quality. This award is also special to us because it comes when the company is celebrating its 10 years of success in India ," says Rolf Löffler, executive director of DaimlerChrysler India while addressing a gathering of senior representatives of module suppliers and employees of the company.
"In todays market, quality becomes the focal competition factor which gives Mercedes-Benz vehicles the competitive edge over all other auto manufacturers," adds Dieter Heyl, head of Quality at DaimlerChrysler India .
DaimlerChrysler India has upgraded its quality systems from ISO9000, VDA6.1 to the latest TS16949/2002. The company has been certified ISO14001 in 2001 for implementing the environmental management system and putting in place environment protection systems, procedures and practices.
A large number of measures are taken to guarantee that Mercedes-Benz cars produced in India follow the same quality principles, guidelines, yardsticks and standards followed in Germany . The company has benchmarked its production processes and adopted the process oriented Mercedes-Benz Production System.
