Have Democrats in the Legislature noticed, perhaps, that the state has a budget crisis? If so, then why are they proposing expensive new education programs?
A Thursday Register news article detailed how Democrats in Sacramento are piggybacking their new proposals on some welcome decentralization proposals being advanced by Richard Riordan, education secretary under Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Mr. Riordan wants to send money directly to schools, give principals greater control over budgets and let schools determine the best way to meet state standards.
