March 29, 2004 -- WASHINGTON - National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice denied last night that President Bush was so obsessed with Iraq that he ignored the threat from al Qaeda.
Speaking on CBS's "60 Minutes," she added that 9/11 happened partly because terrorists saw the United States "cut and run" from Somalia.

Osama didn't see "US" cut and run from Somalia, they saw Clinton's America cut and run.
Bush stood up and fought tyranny, and the Democrats don't like it one bit. I wonder why....

Rice defended Bush's asking her to find out if Iraq had a role in 9/11 despite evidence to the contrary: "The president asked a perfectly logical question. We'd just been hit and hit hard."
And shortly after he asked it, The Taliban fell and Tora Bora became a smoking crater, the grave, I am convinced, of OBL, though our choice of weapons deny us the possibility of ever obtaining a forensically verifiable corpse.

Rice, catching political heat for her refusal to testify before the 9/11 commission....Not that Dr. Rice refused to testify, she refused to testify in public. She would appear before them in closed session, and considering the nature of the information she is privy to, that would be absolutely a requirement.

President Bush is preserving the Executive Branch's power.Condi was not confirmed by the Congress as Cabinet heads are.The commission's parent is the Congress. She may be anxious to testify in public, but it is the President's choice not to start a precedent.

It was an interesting night on 60 Minutes. In the past, I have thought that Condi Rice didn't handle interviews too well, being too scripted and wooden. She did a very good job last night, and Ed Bradley clearly was outclassed - he seemed unwilling to even look her in the eye and had a very strange posture during the entire interview, like he couldn't stand to be in the same room with her. And then Mike Wallace did what I thought was an extremely sympathetic piece on Judge Pickering - even to the point where the head of the Mississippi NAACP was shown to be a closed-minded and uninformed idiot when confronted by Medger Ever's son, who is a staunch supporter of Pickering. Imagine that - the old school of civil rights standing up to a race pimp on 60 Minutes - something I never thought I'd see.

I saw both interviews and found it odd that they would be shown back to back.
Condi did a good job. Gee, who would have thought Ed Bradley would do the interview. Then they move on to Pickering. The first thing that Mike Wallace says and I am paraphrsing is:
"The Republicans disallowed Clinton from appointing 3 judges to the 5th circuit." Now it is the Democrats turn."
Pickering is an excellent judge and a good person. Then again, so was Miquel Estrada. Schumer and Leahy need to have red hot pokers shoved up their arses. Schumer is a moron. Leahy is a traitor.
