Cavett said this was the hottest political issue of the day, and that the audience was balanced and highly engaged. Balanced? Cavett was an absolute disgrace as a moderator, Kerry was an extremely poised young man, and O'Neill appears to have been the token conservative patsy.

O'Neill does not come off as a "patsy".
He basically called Kerry a liar in so many words a few times now (fabrication was one word used).
I wish we could find out who Kerry's friend from Florida in the audience who was willing to step forward and sign a war crimes deposition was. I'll bet it was Camil.

We followed Kerry's advice as Congress cut off funding to the South. The result was tens of thousands killed, millions to reeducation camps, tens of thousands of boat people, and a repressive Communist regime that is still in place.

O'Neil was asked to debate Kerry by Nixon.
Kerry lost his bid for the Senate, and Nixon stayed up all night waiting to hear those results.
Nixon was very astute!
