As was said in the article, the point is not that some lives are worth more than others. Not at all.

It's a way to explain percentages to the simple-minded. The argument is simply that, were we to suffer the percentage loss that the Israelis' do, we would tell the UN to kiss off and we'd go on a terrorist hunt.

You're right, of course. But I think the most illuminating analogy I've seen is one suggested by a Freeper: Israel is comparable in size and population to New Jersey; picture NJ suffering the attacks Israel has.
