Of course there is a genetic component. There is a genetic component to just about every desire that we have - violence, child molestation, substance abuse, etc. Just because it is genetic doesn't mean that society should accept it. Overcoming and transforming base human desires that are destructive to the individual or society is part of being a human being - most of us are able to do this and still live happy and satisfying lives. Just because a tendency has a genetic component does not imply that society must therefore accept it - that is just downright silly thinking.
