Top Republicans are seeking to declassify testimony given by former White House counterterrorism adviser Richard A. Clarke in 2002, saying it directly contradicts his recent attack on the Bush administration's handling of the war on terror.
"Mister Clarke has told two entirely different stories under oath," Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, Tennessee Republican, said in a speech yesterday.

"Democrats blasted the effort as part of "the Republican attack machine," although some agreed to the declassification."
Hey! I read today about some guy who trademarked the term "Republican Attack Machine", and these unethical bastards stole it! He gets royalties. We as Freepers, in deference to his brilliance, should forward all such citations to him so he can get licensing fees every time they use it.

Mr. Frist also said Mr. Clarke was the "only common denominator" in 10 years of terrorist attacks, beginning with the first attack on the World Trade Center. And he sharply criticized Mr. Clarke's "theatrical apology" before the September 11 commission Wednesday to the families of the terrorist victims on behalf of the United States. Mr. Frist said that "was not his right, his privilege or his responsibility."
Mr. Frist added that Mr. Clarke, "can and will answer for his own conduct but that is all."
This story is based in part on wire-service reports.
What an arse, he has no clue what Mr. Bush was doing. It will come out in the wash.............wash your face little dicky boy

"It clearly shows that this administration is terrified by the statements of a 30-year veteran of counterterrorism who worked for three Republican administrations," said Sen. John D. Rockefeller Huh?....The administration wants to release Clarke's testimony because they're "terrified"?
Words fail me.

"More Newspeak: defense is attack."
Correct. And as in all Newspeak, it must be repeated relentlessly into the media so that it's existence will become unquestioned by the masses.
Keying in the phrase "Republican Attack Machine" in quotes, so that only the exact phrase is searched for, results in 11,900 hits.
By contrast,
Keying in the phrase "Democrat Attack Machine" in quotes, so that only the exact phrase is searched for, results in 67 hits.
11,900. Versus 67.
And -we- have the "attack machine". Ironic, isn't it?

Dem/media guidance for republicans:
First, when attacks are leveled against President Bush with no factual basis, lay down. Second, when attacks are made by career civil servants (with no political axe to grind unless it hurts dems) bend over. When the facts get in the way of the media/dem storyline, stick a fist in your mouths.
The media has agreed not to look for the truth and the dems have agreed not to tell the truth. Dem talking points will pass as news coverage and all expert opinion panels will consist of 4 liberals and one Hagel or McCain for fairness. Both know there is a segment of the population that will always believe the lie they started with even if the truth comes out later and therefore mission accomplished.
The fact is, Bush SHOULD be as incompetant and dishonest as their president was and if scandals have to be manufactured to make that happen, then so be it. The dems need power from more than their judicial appointments and filibusters and the media miss 'their team' being in the White House, so any story that will further that goal is an important story.

Clarke is a "pervert", and this "commission" is a hoax.
This "commission" needs to explain why they sought an extension of 90 + days back in January, and finally get a 60 day extension, and Clarke get a month + early printing.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, California Democrat, also said she would support declassification of Mr. Clarke's previous statements, "provided they are released in their entirety and not selectively declassified for political purposes." Ever since Kerry said "Bring it on," I've been wondering what the dem strategy would be. And here it is. Argue endlessly about what gets declassified.

Clarke is so BUSTED!
Either he was lying in 2002 or he is lying in his book and before the 9/11 Commission this week.
Either way, he's laid out wide open for a perjury investigation. And I hope they indict the miserable louse!
Clarke has about as much credibility now as a screen door on a submarine.
