Most communities have only one service provider which eliminates competition.

Actually not true, but who wants to pay long distance to access National providers? I know I sure don't, but I know a lady who needs AOL because she started a business in Texas, moved to Montana, and didn't want to change e-mail addresses. She only uses AOL for e-mail and the local provider (small phone company) that I use, for everything else.

Sorry, It is true! Comcast is the only provider in our area. They have agreements with townships throughout the state.
They are the only ones providing true broadband capability.

Verizon offers DSL, but it is slower than cable access. Comcast has no competition.
