As far as I know a .50 has never been used in a crime. Hauling 20 to 50 pounds of steel around isn't the smartest thing a criminal could do if escape is any consideration at all.
I saw something about the Contra Costa County ban on the sale of the .50-caliber firearms outside incorporated municipalities where a Freeper commented that it would be easy to get it retracted because the cities and counties aren't allowed to make laws tougher than what the State already has passed.
