Republican Party has ignored its principles
The Greenville News ^ | March 26, 2004 | Robert G. Butch Taylor (letter to the editor)

In a recent letter to the president of the United States, I informed him of my resignation from the Republican Party in Greenville. I shall continue to be involved in the local political arena, but not as a Republican.

I am sick and tired of the Republicans selling us down the river. No matter how hard I try to institute positive change, Republicans and the Republican Party ignore my pleas. For this reason I have joined the U.S. Constitution Party and urge other conservatives to do the same.

yet you say are against illegal immigration while the Libertarian party is bascially all for it(i.e The Libertarian platform of no borders).

I vehemently oppose the LP's "open borders" plank in the wake of 9/11, and have written letters to the party leadership critical of it. Even before 9/11 I was always a bit skeptical about open borders.

I know, I know, Libertarians will say that John Kerry is not for drug legalization, but we all basically know if Kerry(or Clinton for that matter) had their way their would be no laws against drugs.

Doubtful. The Rats only care about their gaining and keeping political power, and nothing so illustrates the naked power of the state as its drug prohibition apparatus. Kerry and Clinton both couldn't care less about average Americans going to jail on drug charges, even if they and their elite buddies toot half of Peru up their noses! And remember: 'ol Billy Jeff never inhaled ! :-)

Kinda of like the game Kerry plays when he states that he is against gay marriage, but we all know from his public comments that he has no qualms against it.

This is a bit different than the drug issue, as the gay marriage conundrum strays into the dangerous realm (for Democrats) of political correctness. If Kerry moves too far to the left on this issue, he'll risk alienating the traditional working-class union Democrat base, but if he goes too far to the right, the shrill p.c. gay advocacy crowd and the partisan media types will scream bloody murder about his violation of one of the sacred tenets of political correctness. It should be interesting to see how that plays out over the next few months.

"Isn't this called trolling?"

Wow. Found some bravery today, eh?

Must belong to someone else.

No, brave boy; it is not trolling...or any other pidgeon-hole you've practiced debating in front of the mirror.

I am a Republican, and will remain so; despite the abundance of you new socialists that run it now. What so easily confounds you is that I won't run with your herd.

The party continues to disappoint me. I blame them for changing. You blame me for not.

"..you will have neither principle or power"

This is quite interesting.

How will I lose principle by not supporting socialists?

To all you that would attack someone for speaking out in dissent of the GOP, a few quotes:

“In selecting men for office, let principle be your guide. Regard not the particular sect or denomination of the candidate — look to his character....” —Noah Webster

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or you arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams

"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety" - Benjamin Franklin

Oh by the way Willie: "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." - Dr. Martin Luther King

So Bush's words aren't real then? Is he just blowing smoke out his behind or what?

Yes they are real. What part of no amnesty don't you understand?

JMO, you seem not to understand much, since you post on FR as being someone on the right wing of the political spectrum, yet have all your politcal animus towards Bush, while being silent about Kerry.

Again JMO, people see through your ruse.

I surmise that you don't understand the word "ruse", go look it up in the dictionary, you may learn something.

Amen! This needs to be repeated daily:

There is only one issue in this fall's presidential election: the continued existence of the United States of America.

If John F'onda al Querry is elected, we can kiss our country/republic good bye!

Do you honestly think that the Dem party will cease to exist? I don't think so, not without other parties to syphon of people from it such as the Greens, Party Party, etc. and even then it will still exist.

Now, more than ever, we need to be recruiting *FROM* the Constitution Party.

That makes sense to me.
But Miss Marple has made it clear that she doesn't want conservatives in her Big Tent.

Uh what good is your "principle" while your non-action in the political arena helps your so called political adversary, Kerry.

You should really leave the world of made up conumdrums and enter the real world, IMO.

Now, more than ever, we need to be recruiting *FROM* the Constitution Party. If the GOP had not moved further to the Left than Jimmy Carter was in 1977, there would be no Constitution Party; only a larger GOP

Please let your wisdom flow on how today's GOP, fighting the war on terrorism, cutting taxes, and signing into law a partial birth abortion ban is to the left of Jimmy Carter.

Whew sometimes you all on the fringe right make Cheech and Chong look like Solomon with your remarks.

Jim, is this a Conservative forum or a GOP forum?

Per the welcome page:

"Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web."

and

"Statement by the founder of Free Republic: In our continuing fight for freedom, for America and our constitution and against totalitarianism, socialism, tyranny, terrorism, etc., Free Republic stands firmly on the side of right, i.e., the conservative side. Believing that the best defense is a strong offense, we (myself and those whom I'm trying to attract to FR) support the strategy of taking the fight to the enemy as opposed to allowing the enemy the luxury of conducting their attacks on us at home on their terms and on their schedule."

Doesn't sound like you or some others are upholding any of these things, IMO.

You've already said screw principle and it's only power you're after so you didn't have principle to start with.

You're down half, only question is whether you lose the other half.
