Republican Party has ignored its principles

In a recent letter to the president of the United States, I informed him of my resignation from the Republican Party in Greenville. I shall continue to be involved in the local political arena, but not as a Republican.

I am sick and tired of the Republicans selling us down the river. No matter how hard I try to institute positive change, Republicans and the Republican Party ignore my pleas. For this reason I have joined the U.S. Constitution Party and urge other conservatives to do the same.

That works in many levels. You are punished/fined according to the law existing at the time the punishment is to be discharged.

If you commited a murder and were sentenced to death before the death sentence was outlawed in your State, it does not mean that you can be executed, but rather the exact opposite.

Just wondering if you have a word that describes the act(s) of an illegal who: breaks federal law by entering this country, works under the table for an employer who's broken federal law by hiring him (and evading numerous payroll tax laws), obtains numerous welfare style services at taxpayer expense and more often than not can commit a murder and if he can make it back to Mexico there's a good chance he'll be home free. Any operative word that best describes this scenario?

What difference does that make?

What's being discussed are the legal consequences of those actions, not the actions themselves.

When you are found guilty of a crime, in most instances, there is range of severity of punishment that you may be sentenced to.

In the case of theft, your punishment ranges from community service to jail time.

But the severity of the punishment does not change the nature of the crime itself.

No, that is not what I said. Some people, like Butch, have a standard that cannot be met. They desire perfection, as can be seen from his letter. Since you can't please people like that, it's better to let them find another place to go.

I feel the same way about those who leave the Republicans because we are pro-life. They want a more liberal abortion position, and the party won't accomodate it. If that is the most important thing to them, then they should leave because they are never going to be satisfied with Republicans.

I sympathize with the letter writer, the GOP although accomplished all the things you mention have become no more Conservative than the Democratic Party of the 1960's under LBJ.

With this administration, our right to free speech has been subverted by Campaign Finance Reform, our nation pushed to socialism by the Medicare Bill and the deficit is going through the roof.

It seems that America is in a perpetual creep leftward to Socialism and all the GOP offers is to provide us with a Socialist State only 20 years after the Democrats would take us to Socialism if left to their own devices.

The move to Socialism must be stopped and not just slowed as the Republicans have been doing since 1/20/1989.

Understand what you're saying but what I cannot comprehend is how, in this supposed 'nation of laws', why do we now have a double standard at work where certain individuals and corporations can blatantly break federal law without any apparent repercussions yet others will see the full wrath of the fedgov on them for certain transgressions. If this constitutional republic is to survive I sure feel this needs to be addressed otherwise we're nothing more than a banana republic.

Lets see..there are democrats, republicans and conservatives. And by reading this thread..it would appear they are all separate. And the attitude of some republicans towards the conservatives would seem to convey that they are not needed to vote in President Bush.

I think that is wrong thinking. I might well love the President in some ways..but he has pulled some real boners. And I think that there are some real doozies in his administration.

I would like to think he and the republican party still want conservatives. I do not think he needs to kiss our butts..I just think they need to listen.

And no right thinking person is going to think that conservatives are going to vote for Kerry. I always think that is such a load when I read it.

I would really like to know where the republican leadership is. Is Trent Lott even still with us? If it were not for Ms Rice (I love this woman!), VP Cheney, Rush L., Sean H. and a handfull of others..you would not hear ANY conservative views.

There should never be a camera on that a republican is not in front of..and I do not mean team B. Where are the supposed heavy hitters for our party anyway? Are they that disgruntled with President Bush? Or have their butts been forever welded in the fence straddling position?

There is no reason to get ugly with conservatives. There is every reason to be talking with each other.

Because Dr. Keyes was calling attention to hiimself, as I recall, after a series of attacks on the President. I didn't have an uncivil comment either.

Dr. Keyes is still a Republican, and that's fine by me.

Now, I really have no more time for this silly argument. Those who are dissatisfied will leave no matter what I say, and it is probably better for all sides if they do so. I wish them well.
