Comcast Buys TechTV for $300M (Comcrap to merge TechTV with G4)

After months of wrangling, Comcast Corp. is gobbling up struggling TechTV from Paul Allen's Vulcan Ventures Inc. and plans to merge it with video-game lifestyle network G4.
The acquisition, said to come in just south of $300 million, would propell G4's distribution to from 15 million to 44 million homes.
As part of the deal, EchoStar Communications, which had a 10% stake in Tech TV, will have a minority interest in G4. In return, G4 gets a slot on EchoStar's Dish Network's widely distributed "America's Top 120" tier.
"The result will be one compelling TV channel that showcases the fun and entertaining side of games and technology with the distribution necessary to achieve broad appeal," G4 chief Charles Hirschhorn said in a statement.

Mixed feelings on my part - I don't like Comcrap, but this'll keep both on the air (my kids liked G4 when we had cable).
I am probably one of the handful that still watches TechTV (I don't hold Sumi Das leaving against 'em)...
Just damn.

I got rid of cable two months ago. I never realized what slaves we were to the television. There's peace in our house now... Screw Comcast. Thieves.
(I do miss ESPN, though)

I gotta tell ya, Comcast has been OK in MA (even if not much else is from the Freeper's viewpoint). Since they took over from AT&T, service has been pretty good for CATV and internet, and the high-speed download has doubled. I know they've generated a lot of complaints around the country. Maybe the service depends on what shape the networks they acquire are in.

Well, I do know how they'll probably start. Comcast will migrate alot of the gamer oriented programming over to G4.

Though Tech TV has seen a lot of good talent leave in the past two years:
