POSTED: 3:04 pm MST March 25, 2004 UPDATED: 4:03 pm MST March 25, 2004 DENVER -- KOA Radio talk show host Ken Sasso has died.

Ken Sasso

Sasso died of congestive heart failure at a Colorado Springs hospital Wednesday night at the age of 57.

KOA issued a statement following his death that said, "Ken was a masterful talk show host. He could take any topic and use his wit and humor to make it entertaining and informative. We will remember Ken as a kind, humorous, insightful man whose bold passion was his family and radio."

Sasso had dual passions, his family and radio. His radio credentials go back to 1962 and included running a radio station group before joining KOA in 2001. In September of 2003, he took over the 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. slot on KOA.

Off the air, Ken enjoyed playing jazz. He played soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones. He was also a licensed pilot. In addition, Ken sold numerous photographs and articles to national magazines.

Sasso is survived by his wife, Connie, and sons, Justin and Damon.

Funeral arrangements are pending.

Just heard on the radio tonight that Ken Sasso passed away last night (Wednesday). I didn't always catch his program but always enjoyed his show when I did. I believe he was a former cop. He had a great sense of humor, intellect, and voice. Lots of commonsense and of course he was a conservative.

From Ken's page on 850KOA.com:

Ken is the compassionate conservative that President Bush promised us during his campaign. Ken's views are traditional, of course, but they are tempered by an open-mindedness and willingness to listen that are unparalled in conservative talk radio.

Ken is insightful, well-informed, and posesses a wit that is both wry and spry.

Ken holds the 2002 Colorado Association of Broadcasters awards for Best Entertainment Personality and Best Evening Show.

I caught his show a number of times and he seemed to be a great guy with solid conservative values. What a sad surprise. Prayers going out for Ken and his family.
