Bush asked him just after the Sept. 11 terror attacks to find out whether Iraq was involved in the suicide hijackings, Clarke wrote.

That;s not what Clarke said in this 2002 Frontline interview. In fact, he didn't mention Iraq at all.

Because one of the things that surprises a lot of the public, I think, is that immediately after Sept. 11, the administration knew exactly who had done it. Was that why?

No. On the day of Sept. 11, then the day or two following, we had a very open mind. CIA and FBI were asked, "See if it's Hezbollah. See if it's Hamas. Don't assume it's Al Qaeda. Don't just assume it's Al Qaeda." Frankly, there was absolutely not a shred of evidence that it was anybody else. The evidence that it was Al Qaeda began just to be massive within days after the attack.

President Bush directed the Pentagon to develop plans to confront Iraq if it tried to exploit the U.S. military's engagement with Afghanistan in fall 2001, a White House official said Wednesday.

How dare he! He should have done what any decent, thinking president would have done: left our flank exposed!

Damnit, we're America. We deserve what we get!

I don't know what the big deal is about President Bush going to War with Iraq.

X42i signed into law "The Iraq Liberation Act" on 10/31/1998. It includes regime change in Iraq.
It was passed unanmimously by the Senate ( remember that Sen. Kerry ? )

President Bush was carrying out the law.

Ok, now everyone can go home....

The military makes contingency plans for all kinds of hypotheticals, always has, always should. That AP reports this as "news" shows how tragically stupid the journalists of America really are.

off topic but I can't help it. There are 60 news stories on the FR sidebar right now. NONE of them is about anything current in Iraq. Is that not an interesting fact?

I am darn proud Bush did all he did. Clarke can make all the accusations he wants. Even if Bush behaved as liar Clarke said in his book it would not be a bad thing. No one had a clue to 911. That is not the administrations fault. We are dealing with a very fanatic and unpredictable enemy. The thing that keeps standing out in my mind is the report Gore did on Airline Security and what he left out of the report. They could have warned the airlines about every one of the highjackers and I doubt it would have done any good. There was no airline security.

I have some recordings of radio broadcasts on 9-11-01, notably the stirring and patriotic "call to arms" opening of The Savage Nation in the late afternoon of 9-11-01, roughly 7:07 PM EST.

Anyway, about 1:40 minutes into the clip, Doc Savage notes the breaking news on the web that Sen Orrin Hatch of the Senate Inteligence committee reported that we had intel that 2 messages were sent over private airwaves to Osama Bin Ladin - the message was "we hit two targets."

I also recall seeing a news replay (pretty sure it was Fox) of some of the confusion on the streets of downtown manhattan - a journalist in a truck maybe speculates who is responsible and mentions something along the lines of "One name that must come up for those possibly responsible is Osama Bin Ladin."

Bin Ladin was definitely prominent in the news as early as the evening of 9-11-2001, and maybe as early as late morning of 9-11 based on my memory (maybe faulty) of the news broadcast.

If anyone wants the link to the streaming audio of the Savage Nation 9-11 opening clip (really stirring), Freepmail me, ok?

We must beware ABC.......they had hired Clarke as a consultant and I suspect he will be behind much of the so called news promoted by ABC for the duration of their attempt to destroy America.

William Cohen has been hired by CNN and no doubt that General Clark will be in the backround 'consulting' on one or more of the cable channels.

We must be ready to respond to any and all attacks.

Frankly, there was absolutely not a shred of evidence that it was anybody else

Why is it that the Salmon Pak hijacking training facility is totally ignored by all, including Clarke. Seems to me the only hijackings since they opened the camp were on Sept. 11. Seems like a prety reasonable assumption that Sadaam is linked. I wonder why is it that the administration never tries to make the case, I suppose it's just not bullet proof. For those who don't know about it, here is a link to the interview by PBS Frontline of the Iraqi captain, who is certain that the 911 hijackers were trained there.
