The 2004 Senate races are going to be incredibly expensive with the open races in NC, SC, GA, FL, IL, OK, CO, and possibly PA. I have never seen so many open Senate seats in an election cycle. I suspect their will be a lot coattails from either Bush or Kerry.

With so many open Senate races this election cycle, I wonder if the "true conservative" malcontents who say "Bush should lose because divided gov't is good" will help elect more Republicans to Congress?

Clooney may be ahead because he is not involved in a primary race. Davis, I think, has 2 primary rivals and does not have the nomination yet.

Anyone done a detailed analysis of the Republican prospects for the House races this year? My sense is that we're in danger of losing ground here. We've lost a couple recently in special elections, the one in SD with the crazy driver, and one other, I think, was it another district in KY? I know there has been some favorable redistricting in various states, but will that be enough to offset the projected losses? It'd be nice to hold the margin we had in the House at the beginning of the session and hopefully expand it.
If Bush somehow manages to pull out a victory, it'd be nice to have the House in Republican hands again. OTOH, if Kerry wins, we're toast if it becomes a Rat House.

The Ken Salazar/Bob Schaffer result is troubling, but not surprising. In fact, I'm surprised that Salazar is polling so far below 50%. It suggests an opening for Schaffer, who has been out of the public eye for two years.
