January 27, 1965OK.. what happened on that date??
Anyway, these people are nuts.
If we went back to that date and showed a copy of PRAVDA to the Soviets, I think they would have shut the whole thing down and eliminated all its staff.

What's the name of that movie with Kirk Douglas where a US carrier (Enterprise?) goes into a vortex and appears in WWII with the chance to beat the holy hell out of the Japanese Navy?I liked that movie.

I think a far simpler explanation is the aliens inside the vortex manually turned back the chronometer. < best alien beavus and butthead imitation: >
heh heh , watch this. I will grab the earthling's clock and set it back, say...thirty earth rotations, that should screw with their heads...Heh heh </ alien B & B imitation>

When they brought it back to the ground they were surprised to find that a chronometer on the balloon displayed the date as January 27, 1965, exactly 30 years earlier. A chronometer is a clock. A clock is a device with a big hand and a little hand. The big hand represents minutes, the little hand hours. Sometimes, there's a sweep-second hand as well, to measure seconds.
Now, bearing in mind the above description, how in the world can a clock tell you that it was back in time on January 27, 1965?

there were some giant scorpions--the size of camels-- Though it would be fun... I don't think it's true.
Giant scorpions! The size of camels! FUN!!!!! You've got a wierd sense of, um, fun. ;^>

the real question- if you could go back to 1965- would you?
To: JoeSchem
"Now, bearing in mind the above description, how in the world can a clock tell you that it was back in time on January 27, 1965?" Several Questions come to mind...
First: How is the clock powered? If it is by batteries would not the batteries run down when they went through time 30 years into the past?
Second: IF the clock/chronometer actually did record the passage of time, backwards would it not also record the passage of time forwards when it re-entered our time-stream and thus return to us showing the correct time in the present?
Third were there any Moose spotted in the area of the time displacement? How about cheese?

No, that's not the name of it. You're thinking of a different movie. This was a movie about a natural phenomenon - a storm - and toward the end of the film the storm came back and engulfed the ship and brought them back into the future just as the Tomcats were about to strike the Japanese carriers.
