Various commentators, including Buzzflash, have asserted that airlines should have been warned of a possible terrorist threat prior to 9-11. They further condemn the Bush administration for not reacting to intelligence data indicating the possibility of hijacked planes being used as weapons.

These "commentators" either deliberately or through ignorance ignore the fact that airlines were warned of the hijack threat months prior to 9-11. Furthermore, intelligence agencies knew as early as 1998 of al Qaeda plots to use planes as missiles.

Still, the current liberal line is to claim that President Bush should have done, in eight months, something that the Clinton administration did not do for two years. I would ask the administration critics what they are doing to prevent chemical weapon attacks against U.S. interest in light of the fact that we have all been warned of the terrorists' intentions to carry out such attacks? Having a general idea of terrorist intentions does not magically give us the ability to protect against the attacks. The best we can do is take the fight to the enemy.

In the meantime, either offer solutions or get to the back of the line.
