I got this from kjfine today: ------------- I know this guy. Served with him in the 892d when I was a LT. This is pretty cool. K Injured soldier from Webster Groves is glad to be back in U.S. Below is the link to the story. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/News/St.+Louis+City+%2F+County/F4007E2087B2B4F886256E5D001F72FB?OpenDocument&Headline=Injured+soldier+from+Webster+Groves+is+glad+to+be+back+in+U. _____________________________________________________________________ Before Army 1st Lt. Brandan Mueller was activated in January of last year, he had a feeling he'd be called up, but he also had concerns at home - Mueller's wife Amanda was pregnant with their first child. "Given what was going on over there, I expected it," the reservist said Friday night from his hospital bed at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, where President George W. Bush visited Friday. "But it was my duty to my country." Mueller, 28, a St. Louis attorney who makes his home in Webster Groves, has been at the medical center since early March. He was injured Feb. 27 when his troop was running a fueling mission in northern Iraq and was struck by an oncoming car that was traveling about 80 mph, he said. "If you saw the pictures of the Humvee, you wouldn't believe anyone walked away," Mueller said. Two other members of the 705th Transportation Company also were hurt in the crash, but their injuries paled in comparison to Mueller's. []"It messed up both my legs," he said. Mueller had tendons severed in his right leg. He had a broken right arm. He had a crushed left ankle and foot. Mueller was flown to Baghdad for a day to undergo treatment, then flown to Germany for a day before heading back to the States. On Friday, the president and Laura Bush visited the Muellers. The president thanked Mueller for his service and took a few moments to read to his daughter, Abigail. During his tour of duty, Mueller had the good fortune of getting a 30-day leave that coincided with his daughter's birth on June 20 of last year. "Being there was pure joy," he said. "I don't have the words to express it." "It's a relief," Amanda Mueller said.

Compare that to some [expletives deleted] that simply enlist for the benefits only to complain about being called up. I'm glad he got to come home, and impressed that the President & First Lady visited them.
