This is the American Forces Vietnam Network.

News compiled from major commercial and military news sources.
Its 5 pm.
In the top of the News, Senator John Stennis underwent a lengthy operation at Walter Reed Army Medical Center after he was shot during a hold up in front of his Washington home today.
The surgery was for the removal of two bullets, one from the Senators chest, and one from his left leg.
A hospital spokesman says that Stennis condition is listed as stable.
White House News Secretary Ronald Ziegler says that President Nixon has been informed of the shooting, and has instructed the FBI to assist in every possible way.
A 1971 law makes it a federal crime to assault or kidnap or kill a member of Congress.
Stennis, who entered the Senate in 1947, is Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
Police spokesman say the 71 year-old Mississippi Democrat was shot as he stepped from his car in front of his home.
They say the assailants got Stennis gold watch, wallet, and 25 cents in change.
The Senator reportedly offered no resistance to his assailants, and, after being shot, crawled fifty feet to his house, where his wife called the police.
Police say they are searching for two black men in connection with the shooting.

It IS interesting, but may be coincidental. I have no reason to believe that Hightower's death fits in with this group as it was in the early 90's, IIRC. I had also never heard any reason to believe that Bogg's death was anything but an accident--until now. The timing of that one is VERY intersting, yet it may be coincidental. I don't know enough about either one of them to have any intelligent idea. But I would like to now know more about both.

Did any other of the 6 senators who were subject to Kerry & Co.'s assassination vote end up getting shot or killed?I just read in another thread ["Witnesses Say Kerry Participated in 1971 'Assassination Summit' (Insight mag retraces FR steps)"] that one of the targeted people was Hale Boggs, House majority leader and Cokie Roberts' father, whose airplane dissapeared in Alaska in October 1972.

Instead of blaming Kerry the left will simply put the blame on the FBI who knew of the VVAW plot.Yeah they'll deflect attention for sure. Character means nothing to them.

Saddam was not in power in 1973. Quite true and good point to remember... but the source is PBS, after all.
Saddam was in control of the intelligence apparatus at that time and had managed to get managerial control over Iraqi oil, and though not the official head of state as PBS implied, he certainly had Iraq by the short hairs. He didn't become 'absolute' ruler until 1979 when al Bakr resigned and Hussein wasted half his own cabinet officials and a bunch of his potential Baathist rivals.

Up until 1979 Hussein was for all practical purposes approaching shadow government status; he was vice Prez when al Bakr resigned. But before that in 1975 Saddam Hussein was making deals directly with the USSR and France.

Tower and Heinz died within a day of each other.... Tower's plane crash was in my hometown (Brunswick, Georgia), so I remember it vividly... it was 13 years ago today, April 5, 1991. Heinz's crash was the day before, April 4, 1991.
