Okay...this is the distinction...I'm assuming the DRUG dealer had a previous conviction...British law would make a distinction in the rights between someone with a criminal record and the average citizen. Unlike in America, past crimes can be brought into court cases, and weigh on sentencing, prosecution etc.

Maybe. I think the British libel laws mean that the papers don't always have to put in "alleged" all the time. They can operate on mere hear-say. Nowhere does it say he was ever convicted for drug dealing, or that the police found any drugs. Besides, marijuana is "next to legal" in the UK. Decriminalized or whatever.

I have to agree with you. This guy was no Tony Martin. As I first read it, I was outraged. With the additional info (the "swordsman" was a drug dealer) it becomes more... interesting. Just scum killing scum with a net gain to society.

It is almost like the article was written to PO American RKBAs.

There is the English concept of property, so foreign to our American thinking, that its easily overlooked. Just as in the Tony Martin case of several years ago, this man was not prosecuted for defending himself. He was not prosecuted because he was a drug dealer. Defending ones life is not the question. He was (punished by the state) prosecuted for defending his property, even under threat of death. In England today, defense of property by force is no longer protected by the courts. If a thief threatens to harm or kill you if you do not surrender your property - English courts expect you to do just that, surrender your property.

Well it only been 155 years since the Marx Communist Manifesto was written, in England I might add. Welcome to the Marxist revolution, where no property is privately owned...

Its time to reread your US Constitution boys, and cherish it for all its wisdom regarding God, life, property, and self determination.
