The friggin' Communists were trying to start a revolution right here in the USA! Cities and campuses burned with riots just prior to and right into the Nixon administration, youth were violent in the streets! I believe that Nixon was actually extremely restrained given the circumstances. Compare this with the response to the anarchists at the turn of the 19th to 20th century, and to the Communists during the 1920s. If anything, I fault Nixon for being too nice; he had Constitutional authority to do much, much more. So too does Bush.
