Lind should realize that Phase III, as he calls it, will be a fight between the re-created Iraqi national army and the non-Iraqi terrorists (Al Qaeda). I expect that the US & Coalition forces will be largely withdrawn from the country or moved to remote cantonments where security can be maintained.

But then Bill Lind is among those Democratic-party advisors (he's a former Gary Hart staffer) who are rooting for the US to fail.

The largest contingent of soldiers in Iraq are Iraqis.

I think the writer way underestimates our SOF and 'shadow' forces.
