Excellent post, but how is the Hubbard issue damaging to Kerry?
It seems Kerry tried to get Hubbard kicked out after he was found to be a liar. I'm no fan of Kerry's but I don't see the Hubbard thing undermining his credibility, just the opposite.
On the other hand pressuring Musgrave to lie is serious.

Kerry should have known Hubbard was a phony from the start. He certainly knew after April 18, 1971, when callers to Meet The Press helped expose him. Not long after that, IIRC, Hubbard and Kerry (or maybe just Kerry) DEFENDED Hubbard's phony record on the Today Show.
This was all MONTHS before the November meeting. No, to me it looks like Hubbard's bogus record was just an excuse for Kerry brought up to try to grab power or resign.
