Three cheers for the Senate. By linking the AWB to something not in the best interest of the NTLA, they killed it more effectively than Charlton Heston could ever have hoped to.

I have been a loyal repubican for 95 years and voted for Bush but now that he will try to sneak the AWB through congress I vow to vote for Kerry or maybe even that Libertarian guy whoever he is.

I congratulate you on your longevity. When you go vote for Kerry, make sure Kerry's operatives come pick you up in a nice air conditioned van, serve you a nice sandwich, bag of chips and soda and show you how to place your vote.

No wait, don't do that. Because if you do, you will wind up voting for Buchanan, like in 2000.

Ownership of fully automatic firearms has been banned by federal law since 1934.

This is a common misconception. If you're willing to pay thousands of dollars for a $500 firearm, plus a $200 transfer tax, plus undergo a months-long Federal background check including fingerprinting, and if your state doesn't have laws banning them, you can buy yourself a machine gun. They couldn't ban them outright because back then nobody was particularly confused as to the meaning of the Second Amendment as they are today, so instead they imposed what was, at the time, a prohibitive tax on them.

And, a Federal court has recently ruled that the Federal tax law doesn't apply to a machine gun built for personal use entirely within a particular state.

What makes you think it was Bush or the Republicans who introduced that amendment? My money's on Schumer, Feinstein, and Boxer.

Lessee, 95 years + 21 years for legal voting age back then = 116 years old. And you're still a single issue voter?

One little nit pick.

He wrote: "Ownership of fully automatic firearms has been banned by federal law since 1934."

Not true. It is absolutely legal for citizens to own FA firearms. It should have been written: "Ownership of fully automatic firearms has been tightly regulated by federal law since 1934."

But then, what the anti-gunners don't know, can't hurt them.

Yeah whatever. That's what all trolls start off by saying they supported Bush in 2000 BUT... they're a military veteran BUT... they're a lifelong Pubbie BUT...

At age 95 you should be more worried about other things than the AWB.

Or if that 95 year old poster lived in Milwaukee, maybe Teresa Heinz will hand out cigarettes from her stretch limo and encourage him to vote for Kerry.

And if he had a great-grandson who went to college, he can double or triple vote like Marquette University students did!

I could respect a vote for a Libertarian if Bush allows the AWB to sneak through as a rider on some spending bill as I have threatened to sit home or vote third party myself is such happens, however, I will die before I cast a vote for Kerry.
