If we had tough security and insurance requirements, I am pragmatic enough to see that it would be better to have licensed illegals driving than unlicensed ones. (Remember having no illegals is a federal government task and they have let all of the states know that they are no going to fulfill their responsibility.)

The remaining issue is that we have to keep them from using the license to vote. If they are issued a special license they just won't get one because it will immediately identify them as illegal and we are right back to no insurance and no security.

I suspect the only way to deal with this is:

1. Draconian voter fraud laws which are enforced (fat chance), and

2. Require more than one ID for voter registration and eliminate "moter voter". Again no chance at all with RATs in control.

Anyone have a better idea? It may be time to support the "no illegal licenses" referendum.

All great ideas...from what I'm being told (from the Gov's office) they are discussing numerous 'hurdles' that will take many concerns out of the playing field - voting being one of them!

Remember, AS has a problem...Bush has already supported a "Guest Worker" program and we have 14 other states with these license for illegals. Can you say 'court room' on this initiative, just like Prop 187?

There is more to the dance than AS turning into a trader, we need to be smarter than the average conservative voter. This is a sexy issue, but it can hurt us in the long haul if we are not careful with how we handle our discussions, the governor and the campaign season!

Given stringent identification provisions and the precaution of special insurance requirements, I see no reason why illegals cannot be issued drivers Licenses overprinted with "Not US Citizen" or some such. Would make it easier for immigration officals to identify them for a quick trip to the nearest border.
