Funny, I spent the ENTIRE DECADE of the 70s in the Navy, made 3 combat cruises to 'nam, was on the staff of a couple of Admirals, had a TOP SECRET clearance, in fact I had clearances so high that the mere fact I held them was CLASSIFIED CONFIDENTIAL, and I don't recall anything like this in ANY of the intel reports I read.

Did anyone else hear of ANYTHING like this????

I had a TS, cleared for TREMOS. Closest I can think of was the race riot aboard the carrier Kittyhawk, which included a white guy getting thrown overboard.

A sad footnote marred the Kittyhawk cruise. Towards the end of the last line period, racial tensions reached a high among the 5,000 men aboard Kittyhawk. On the night of October 12th, 1972, a race riot exploded. Seven men were seriously injured.

I recall reading about one or two isolated incidents of "fragging", that is, tossing a fragmentation grenade into the proximity of an officer that was known for being abusive. These were the acts of a few cowards, NOT the general conduct of large numbers of soldiers.
